This is the official Proof Set, as issued by the U.S. Mint in 1970. It has been unavailable from the U.S. Mint since 1970 and is increasingly hard to find. The coins were struck at the San Francisco Mint (“S” mint mark).
Proofs are the highest quality U.S. coins, and a Proof Set is a limited edition collection of the year’s coins.
The 1970 Proof Set includes all coins: the Penny, nickel, dime, quarter and the Half Dollar.
This is the last regular U.S. Proof Set to include a silver coin. The set includes the .400 silver Kennedy Half Dollar, which was also the last regular-issue silver coin in U.S. history. No Half Dollars were made for circulation in 1970, so the Proof coin is a key to any collection.
All coins are in original Proof quality and are still in the original U.S. Mint protective packaging.
