Destiny 2 Tweaks Dares of Eternity Reputation Gains (2024)

The latest hotfix changes the reputation gain values for Destiny 2's Dares of Eternity mode, slowing down the Xûr reputation grind even more.

Following last week's Destiny 2 hotfix, some players have noticed changes in the exact amount of reputation they got while leveling-up Xûr in the Dares of Eternity activity. One Destiny 2 Guardian, in particular, has decided to run Dares a few times to confirm his suspicions and ended up figuring out that Bungie has changed how the reputation gain works.

Though changes often come in fast and hard in Destiny 2, they're not always properly documented. The recent Destiny 2 hotfix that fixed various exploits, didn't mention anything regarding nerfs to Xûr reputation gains. Reddit poster look0out1 ended up figuring out that changes had been made to Dares of Eternity all on their own, and while it is possible that this is a bug, the nature of said changes suggests that this might not be the case.

According to look0out1's post on Destiny 2's most popular subReddit, the specific amount of reputation players can get by playing Dares of Eternity now depends on the difficulty they choose. Following a few tests, the normal difficulty now caps out at 125 reputation points at most, while legend difficulty nets a total of 165 reputation points. If players successfully take down all the Champion enemies in legend difficulty and nab a Platinum score at the end, they can get up to 185 reputation points in a single run.

According to players that have crunched the numbers, this evens out to a definitive nerf to the normal mode reputation gain for Xûr. In other words, Destiny 2 players with dedicated 6-man fireteams that are eager to play legend-tier Dares of Eternity for hours on end will gain reputation at the same rate they used to get before. On the other hand, players that stick to normal difficulty due to matchmaking availability and a more casual pace will get significantly less reputation across the board.

Having verified the data themselves, other Reddit users have already attempted to reach out to Destiny 2's community managers for clarification whether the changes to Xûr reputation gains are deliberate or not. While this may well be the case, it's also worth pointing out that stealth nerfs to Destiny 2's various systems are not an entirely new thing.

Of course, it's natural that there'd be a difference in the specific amount of Dares of Eternity XP between its two difficulty modes. It's entirely possible that the activity had been bugged up until now since the release of Bungie's 30th Anniversary content in Destiny 2, with the problem going undocumented until now. Either way, the change has soured things a bit, at least until Bungie clarifies the issue.

Destiny 2 is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and Stadia platforms, with the Witch Queen DLC coming out on February 22nd.
