The Cryosthesia 77k was introduced with Season of the Splicer and is proving to be an interesting weapon in Destiny 2. However, the freezing mechanic is a little tricky to take advantage of, and most players feel it isn’t worth the effort.

Fortunately, the Cryosthesia 77k Catalyst helps players capitalize on the freeze. It doesn’t make the game powerful enough to shake up the meta, but it is fun to use. Here’s everything players need to know about what the Cryosthesia 77k Catalyst does and how to find one.

Updated on April 8, 2022, by Anastasia Maillot: When it comes to newer Exotic weapons that came out within the last year of Destiny 2, Cryosthesia 77k is one of the more recent ones in the aftermath of the Beyond Light DLC. Those who missed out on the season pass and didn't play during Season of the Splicer will find a section in the guide detailing where to get this Exotic sidearm for their collection. Additional tips on how to best farm for the Cryosthesia 77k catalyst have also been added, as well as analysis on whether or not Cryosthesia 77k and its catalyst are worth it in the current season.

How To Get Cryosthesia 77k In Season 16

Cryosthesia 77k is an Exotic sidearm that was introduced after the release of the Beyond Light expansion, during the 2021 Season of the Splicer's battle pass. As such, it definitely belongs to the new generation of Exotics in Destiny 2 and is also made unique by the fact that it's a Stasis sidearm.

Players who want to get their hands on this Exotic can now purchase it from the Monument to Lost Lights found at the Tower. Make sure to consult Master Rahool first to be able to afford this weapon. Here's what it will cost for players:

  • 1 Exotic Cipher
  • 100,000 Glimmer
  • 150 Spinmetal Leaves
  • 1 Ascendant Shard

What It Does

The Cryosthesia 77k catalyst comes with a single, but important perk called Cold Efficiency. It offers the following benefit to the weapon:

  • Shattering a frozen enemy will instantly refill the Cryosthesia 77k’s magazine from reserves.

This is huge, as normally players find themselves with a frozen enemy and an empty magazine. Switching to another weapon or refilling loses precious time while the enemy is frozen. The Cryosthesia 77k Catalyst fixes this by giving the player an entire magazine of ammo to blast the frozen enemy.

How To Get The Catalyst

Getting the Cryoshtesia 77k catalyst is unfortunately no picnic. Once players have the weapon purchased, Banshee-44 will give the player the quest Stasis Trigger, which is comprised of three parts the player must complete.

Part 1

In this part of the quest, players will need to do three things with any weapon, though the Cryosthesia 77k is strongly advised for practice. It will play a more prominent role in Part 2.

  • Get 75 precision kills
  • Kill 50 Guardians
  • Kill 100 enemies in PVE.

Part 2

After completing those tasks, Banshee-44 wants the player to really get to know the Cryosthesia 77k. To do this players will need to do three things with the Cryosthesia 77k. Fair warning, it’s a bit of a grind.

  • Generate Calibration Data through playlist Strikes, Nightfalls, Gambit, and/or Crucible.
  • Defeat 50 Guardians.
  • Defeat 100 enemies in PVE.

Part 3

This is by far the easiest step. After completing the other absurd requirements the player simply needs to return to speak with Banshee-44, who will turn over the Cryosthesia 77k Catalyst.

Upgrading The Catalyst

Players will want to upgrade the Cryosthesia 77k Catalyst to its full potential. This requires killing 700 enemies using the Cryosthesia 77k. They can do this anywhere, and any enemy kill will count towards the 700.

Fortunately, these kills can be obtained retroactively. Part 2 has at least 150 kills, and if the player used the Cryosthesia 77k in Part 2, that’s another 225 kills. By using the weapon exclusively for each of the quests, the player will have around 375 kills. That results in more than half of what’s needed.

Tips For The Catalyst

While it may be tempting to use other weapons for Part 1 of the Stasis Trigger quest, it’s better in the long run to use the Cryosthesia 77k. While it’s annoying to use without the Catalyst, it will net a lot of retroactive kills and give players solid practice for Part 2.

Lost Sectors and some public events help with the PVE farming. Many players also feel that Nightfall Strikes on a high difficulty is the fastest way to earn Calibration Data. There is also a handy multiplier for Calibration Data for players who reach level 22 on the Season Pass.

Luckily, Cryosthesia 77k is a Primary weapon, so players won't need to slap on any ammo finder mods while doing these activities. However, any mods that make handling and reloading a sidearm faster might make the whole process much more enjoyable.

Is The Cryosthesia 77k Catalyst Worth It?

Destiny 2: What The Cryosthesia 77k Catalyst Does & How To Find It (7)

Exotic sidearms are a bit of a letdown in Destiny 2 at the moment, as are sidearms in general. They're light weapons that do minimal damage, so it's unlikely they will ever be useful in the game's meta unless the seasonal artifact buffs them.

With that in mind, Cryosthesia 77k is more of a cool collection weapon to complete every player's vault. Sure, it does have a Stasis effect and its catalyst does pair well with that freeze-effect it applies on targets, but given that there are better and more Stasis weapons that are more accessible (aka Legendary weapons), there's really no justifiable reason as of season 16 to grind for this sidearm's catalyst.

Destiny 2: The Witch Queen is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
