So, to help clarify some things we’ve provided answers to some of our most commonly asked holiday light questions. Keep reading to learn everything you need to know about professional Christmas lights!

When Should You Get Your Professional Christmas Lights Installed?

A lot of clients aren’t aware of how the installation timeline works for professional Christmas lights. For most homeowners, you’d probably start putting up your Christmas decorations the week after Thanksgiving, but this is way too late for professional lights. Most professional light installation companies will be booked up for the season by mid to late November! This is because Christmas light installers have to do a lot of installations in a very short amount of time. That means most lighting installations will start as early as the last week of October and go through the first week of December…or while supplies last.

With limited supply availability and a short window for installations, we recommend you reach out to Christmas light installers as early as the end of September. This will give you time to shop around and help secure the lights and colors that you want. If you wait until after Halloween or Thanksgiving it’s very likely that installers will be booked for the season and you’ll have to wait until next year. Bah HUMBUG!

What Kind of Christmas Lights do Professionals Use?

Another frequently asked question regarding professional Christmas light installations is what kind of lights do professionals use? This will vary from company to company and also depends on your holiday light display setup. For rooflines and trees, we use large C9 bulbs which are available in a variety of colors. We love these because they’re each installed individually which means you can customize your color pattern. On tree trunks, bushes and columns we recommend commercial quality M5s which are pre-colored strands.

What’s the Difference Between Commercial and Residential Christmas Lights?

We personally use commercial quality lights that are custom built to fit your home. This gives you a tailored display with no gaps or extra wires hanging and it also gives you the most sparkle for your dollar. Commercial quality lights cannot be purchased at Home Depot, Walmart or any other similar stores. These higher-end lights are made up of high quality wiring and bulbs that give off significantly more light than traditional Christmas lights. This allows us to achieve a very high end look with lots of sparkle and glow!

How Much Does it Cost to Have Professionals Hang Christmas Lights?

Everything You Need to Know About Professional Christmas Lights - Kind Home Solutions (3)Obviously, one of our most asked questions is about pricing. This is especially true for clients looking at lights for the first time. Each company will price things out differently, but we do a per bulb price depending on the scope of the project. This is because some displays take more time and labor than others. For example, a simple roofline installation will be the most cost effective option, because it requires the least amount of labor. Most roofline projects will be somewhere between $500 and $1,500 for installation. If you have a steep roof you may receive an additional charge.

Surprisingly, trees add the most cost to projects. Most trees require about 300 to 1,000 bulbs, so trees can add up quickly. If you’re looking to light up a tree this holiday season, you should expect to spend about $1,000 to $3,000 with a professional installer. Keep in mind that our pricing is all inclusive, so you may see different ranges depending on what materials are provided.
