Appearance[]
Half-elves are most commonly born of human and elf heritage, or from two half-elves of such ancestry. Most distinctly, they have pointed ears, though often not as large as their elven progenitors. They tend to be slightly taller than elves, being between 5 and 6 feet tall, and weighing around 140 pounds.
Besides humans, half-elves can have many other non-elven parents, including dwarves, goblinkin, and even orcs. Half-elves of such ancestry often exhibit some physical traits of their non-elven parent, such as the beard of a dwarf, or furry ears and yellow eyes of a bugbear.[4] Half-elves with an orcish lineage are called uniya in Jrusar,[5] and those of dwarven descent in Uthodurn are affectionately called attalwen, meaning "two-hearted".[3]
Powers and abilities[]
Half-elves are a versatile people, able to fit into the societies of both of their parents. They also share their elven parent's fey ancestry, and thus are resistant to being beguiled, and magic cannot put them to sleep. Some half-elves exhibit other abilities in common with their elven parent. For example, a half-drow might have superior darkvision, or be capable of the same innate magics of their dark elf parent.
Society[]
Tal'Dorei[]

Within the Republic of Tal'Dorei, half-elves are well liked by humans, seeing them as a symbol of the bond between Tal'Dorei and Syngorn.[6] However, the elves of Syngorn hold the outdated[4] view that human blood dilutes the "superior" magical elven blood, and call half-elves "othlir" (Elven for "ill-born").[7] As such, half-elves rarely hold prominence in Syngorn, and typically leave to find more welcoming lands. A surprising number of half-elves can be found in the dwarven stronghold of Kraghammer, finding common ground in mutual dislike of elven society.[6]
Wildemount[]

Half-elves are common across the Menagerie Coast, as the Clovis Concord was founded by the native human Ki'Nau and the human and elf settlers from Marquet.[4] In most of the Dwendalian Empire, half-elves are considered proof of the healthy integration of disparate societies under the Crown, but in Bysaes Tyl, an elven society already only reluctantly assimilated into the empire, the birth of a half-elf child is seen as a betrayal.[4]
Half-elves of dwarven ancestry can be found within Uthodurn, fostered by the union of dwarves and elves that fled there from the destruction of Molaesmyr.[4] Such children are also known as attalwen, meaning "two-hearted".[3] Half-drow are especially common within the Kryn Dynasty, with many dark elves forming relationships with other humanoids such as goblinkin and orcs.[4]

Trivia[]
- Half-elves can have children of their own. When they form families with other half-elves, their offspring will be half-elves themselves. However, if a half-elf has children with someone of different ancestry, even a member of their parental races, the results can vary.
- Examples of this are the youngest generation of the de Rolo family, half-elven children of Vex'ahlia (a half-elf) and Percy (a human); and the youngest generation of the Lorelei family, human children of Haldur (a half-drow) and Rosalind (a human).
- A possible explanation for those cases is that the offspring of those unions tend to inherit traits from the parent that gave birth to them, since both the de Rolo siblings and the Lorelei siblings inherited (mostly) the race of their respective mothers.
- Examples of this are the youngest generation of the de Rolo family, half-elven children of Vex'ahlia (a half-elf) and Percy (a human); and the youngest generation of the Lorelei family, human children of Haldur (a half-drow) and Rosalind (a human).
