Step 1: Stakes Are Your Friend, So Buy a Bunch
Stakes work against vampires and gusts of wind equally well. How to keep inflatables from falling over with stakes may be obvious to you. But first things first, you have to get the stakes.
What kind should you get? Well, you’ll need different kinds for different decorations. Inflatables can use tent stakes designed to hold loops of rope. Flat decorations, such as cardboard, wood, or plastic signs, will need a flat wooden stake. For these decorations, you can use duct tape to affix them to the stake.
Where can you get stakes? Pretty much any hardware store will have them, and your best bet is larger stores like Lowes and Home Depot. Tell them you want to know how to keep inflatables from falling over, and they’ll hook you up.
Step 2: Prep Your Decorations
Now that you have your stakes, let’s review how to anchor Christmas inflatables and other decorations to the ground. Twine, tape, weights, a rubber mallet, and a drill will be handy to have on hand.

Let’s revisit that drill comment from earlier. Don’t worry — we’ll discuss how to anchor Christmas inflatables to the ground in a second. For hollow plastic decorations, drill a few holes in the bottom and route twine through. That twine can then be tied to a stake.
Or, if you don’t want to drill holes, you can use weights. Many plastic decorations have an access hole on the back for just this purpose. Use sand, gravel, or literal weights from your gym if they fit.

For flat decorations, get your mallet and drive that flat wooden stake at least a foot into the ground. Use more tape than you think you should. If you mount the decoration to a tree or post, be aware that the wind could catch the decoration and tear it right off. You might need to drill it in.
Step 5: Double-Check Everything
No one wants their lawn decorations to go missing. Also, your employees and clients don’t want to get beaned on the noggin by a flying, unsecured ornament.
