Tips and Strategies for Beating Hunters

Before you engage Hunters, evaluate your weapon loadout and consider the space you'll have to fight them in. Unsurprisingly, the best weapons you can use against Hunters are Power weapons. Bringing a Sniper, Skewer, or even a Ravager to a Hunter fight will make it a lot faster of a challenge. When you can't get one of those, your next best bet is Shock weapons like the Disruptor and Shock Rifle. Shock weapons do damage over time, and if the charge is built up enough, the shock can stun your target.

Keep in mind too that once you've slain one Hunter the remaining Hunter will go into a rage state. You can tell they're going berserk when you see their eyes glow and they start charging. There are some lore reasons for this (they're bonded pairs and you just killed their buddy!), but most importantly for you, that means being ready for a charging Hunter after one falls. The remaining Hunter will also switch from dodgeable Plasma blasts to a rapid-fire barrage of Plasma shots.

They'll sometimes get enraged before one is down if they've taken enough damage or sometimes when they've received consecutive headshots.

  • Hunters' weak spot is on their back and sides. Shoot for the tube-like orange clusters on their bodies.
  • You can use the Grappleshot to quickly get behind Hunters and get that back damage.
  • Hunters are also weak in the knees! Shoot the unprotected right knee with a scoped weapon for great damage against your big foe.
  • If you're fighting Hunters in the open world, consider loading up a Razorback with Marines and driving them to the fight. Throw down a Drop Wall for them if you can then use the Grappleshot to get away from them. Use them as a distraction to get shots off on the Hunters' backs.
  • Hunters can jump, but they can't climb. Use ledges and other tall structures in the environment to your advantage. You can often shoot over an edge then back up to let the wall or cliff or ledge take the Plasma damage instead of you!
  • Use a Drop Wall for cover when there's not much cover in the combat area.
  • Hunters' Plasma cannon fire can do some splash damage
  • The Hunters can toss away nonsticky grenades with their shield
  • There's usually some sort of heavy weapon around Hunter fights. Scan and look around to see what's available to you
  • Use fusion coils! Use the scan feature to see what's around you. Just don't let an enemy shoot the coil while you're holding it.
  • If you can find a high spot Hunters can't reach, you can also place a Drop Wall and get a fair number of shots in them before it's destroyed.

Halo Infinite's Hunters

As with previous Halo games, Hunters always travel in pairs. Their specialty Plasma cannon attached to them cannot be collected after they're defeated. Hunters do not have shields but are generally resilient creatures.

In Halo Infinite you'll come across two different kinds of Hunters. One type is the standard blue and orange coloring:

The other is a Banished special variant where they appear in a white and red color palette. These Hunters are especially aggressive and are best fought from a distance:
