Late-Breaking Work (2024)

The Late-Breaking Work category is an opportunity to present new and exciting contributions that outline tentative findings, early research ideas and technical work, novel conversations toward future work as well as theoretical or methodological discussions that are currently developing in ongoing work.

We welcome a broad range of submissions around a diversity of topics and contribution types:

  • An original technology, technique or design in the early stages and/or with or without an evaluation.
  • Selected results from ongoing qualitative or quantitative studies with various levels of analysis.
  • Early stages of research with reflections, important implications and/or (methodological) considerations.
  • Novel discussions and/or analysis of existing or ongoing work that adds a new perspective.
  • Open work that invites feedback or community engagement around next steps, implications to research, applicability and/or novel approaches to analysis and collaborations.

Important dates

• Submission deadline: June 1st, 2022 (16h CET)

• Author notification July 1st, 2022

• Camera-ready deadline August 15th 2022 (16h CET)

Submission

  • Submissions should be fully anonymised
  • All materials must be submitted electronically to PCS by the deadline. In PCS, first click “Submissions” at the top of the page, from the dropdown menus select “SIGCHI”, “NordiCHI 2022” and the track you want to submit to.
  • Submissions can be up to six pages long (excluding references) in the ACM standard single-column format - see submission guidelines
  • Submissions should be as close to publication-ready as possible, since authors will have a limited time to make changes post acceptance. Papers that require major revisions may not be accepted.

Selection Process

LBW submissions undergo double-blind peer-review by a selected committee and will be discussed by the committee to constitute the program. Given the shorter timeline the submissions will only receive short feedback. The criteria for evaluations are as follows:

  • Contribution to NordiCHI 2022: Will this research stimulate interesting conversations and feedback among NordiCHI attendees? Is there a compelling reason for this work to be LBW and not a full research contribution this year or later?
  • Significance: How important is the problem, question or topic the LBW examines? Is there an audience at NordiCHI 2022 that would find this relevant and/or engaging?
  • Originality: How does this work relate to previous work and discussions within the area? Does it offer a novel contribution or compelling alternative perspective?
  • Validity: How well are the chosen methods described and justified in the submission?
  • Written presentation: How clear, understandable, and targeted is the writing?

Each submission will undergo review and the final decisions will be made through assessment and discussions in the LBW subcommittee.

Publication

The accepted LBW will be available in the ACM Digital Library as part of the extended abstracts proceedings.

Presentation Format

Accepted LBW will be presented as posters during the NordiCHI 2022 conference. Details regarding presentation and print will be provided with the acceptance notification.

As an experienced researcher in the field of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and academic conferences, I've actively contributed to the understanding and advancement of this domain. I have a proven track record of publications, peer-reviewed articles, and presentations at prestigious conferences, including but not limited to SIGCHI-sponsored events. My expertise spans various aspects of HCI, ranging from user interface design and usability evaluation to emerging technologies and their impact on human interaction.

Regarding the Late-Breaking Work (LBW) category at NordiCHI 2022, it serves as a platform for researchers to present preliminary yet groundbreaking findings, innovative ideas, and ongoing work that holds promise for future developments in the HCI field. This category specifically encourages submissions that highlight early-stage research, theoretical discussions, methodological considerations, and explorations of novel perspectives.

The call for submissions emphasizes a broad spectrum of contributions, such as:

  1. Original Technologies, Techniques, or Designs: These could be at an early stage of development, with or without formal evaluation, showcasing innovative approaches to solving HCI-related problems.

  2. Selected Results from Ongoing Studies: These submissions might present preliminary findings from qualitative or quantitative studies, offering insights at various analytical levels.

  3. Early Stages of Research with Reflections: Submissions here might focus on the implications of ongoing research, methodological considerations, and the potential impact of the work.

  4. Novel Discussions and Analysis: This category encourages papers that offer new perspectives on existing or ongoing work within the HCI domain, stimulating fresh conversations and insights.

  5. Open Work and Community Engagement: Authors are encouraged to submit work that invites feedback, community engagement, and collaboration, fostering discussion around the future steps, research implications, and novel analytical approaches.

The submission guidelines, outlined deadlines, and selection process illustrate the meticulous approach taken to curate the LBW track. Submissions undergo a double-blind peer-review process by a selected committee, evaluating criteria such as contribution to the conference, significance of the research problem, originality, validity of methods, and the quality of written presentation. Accepted LBW submissions will be published in the ACM Digital Library as part of the extended abstracts proceedings and presented as posters during the NordiCHI 2022 conference.

The chairs for this category, Henrik Korsgaard and Émeline Brulé, oversee the LBW submissions, ensuring a robust selection process and a platform that promotes innovative and impactful research within the HCI community.
