Marksmanship Hunter Overview

Marksmanship is the least mobile Hunter spec, as it is the only specthat has to deal with long cast times during which you cannot move.From a playstyle perspective, Marksmanship is relatively simple with onlya few central abilities you must understand to play the spec optimally.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths

Very high burst damage, especially AoE.
Very high mobility, although not as high as Beast Mastery.
Does not rely on Pet AI.

Weaknesses

High importance on planning ahead with casts.
Weak utility and survivability without a pet.

Patch 10.2 Changes to Marksmanship Hunter

5.1.

General Hunter Changes

Hunter's Mark is now a raid debuff — It increases thedamage taken by a single target by 5%, while it is above 80% health, anapproximate 1% raid DPS increase.

5.2.

Marksmanship Hunter Changes

Windrunner's Guidance has been redesigned — Each Wind Arrow fired reduces the cooldown of Rapid Fire by 0.5 sec,andevery 8 Wind Arrows fired increases the duration of your next Trueshotby 1sec, up to a maximum of 10 sec.

Basics of Marksmanship Hunter Gameplay

Marksmanship Hunter is a spec about your managing yourcooldown abilities, and managing your movement to some extent. Yourburst windows during cooldowns are also important, and there is oftena strict order for your abilities to follow. It is a somewhat slow spec thatis easy to pick up.

Most of your time will be spent generating and spending Focus with Steady Shot and Aimed Shot/ Arcane Shot respectively. Aimed Shot and Rapid Fire are your big spender and generatorrespectively, and you always wanna cast them off cooldown with minimal delay.
