Phase 4 Has 5 MCU Characters Who Can Lift Mjolnir (2024)

Despite howuniqueMjolniris in theMCU, Marvel's Phase 4 has five characters who can lift it, including Thor: Love and Thunder's new version of Thor. Initially, Thor was the only one worthy to lift Mjolnir, but as the MCU becomes more populated, more and more powerful characters meet the enchanted hammer's criteria. While some have been around for a while and others haven't yet made their debut, all five of these characters will soon appear in Phase 4 and will be able to lift Mjolnir.

Created in the heart of a dying star, Mjolnir is a mythical weapon that first appeared in the MCU inThor. Odin the Allfather passeddown the weapon to his son Thor, but after Thor was banished from Asgard, Odin placed a spell on Mjolnir thatmakes it so that only those who are deemed worthy can wieldthe hammer. Once Thor became worthyof Mjolnir,he continued to use it until it was destroyed by his sister Hela inThor: Ragnarok. However, it was not gone forever, as a Mjolnir from an alternate timeline appeared once again inAvengers: Endgame.

Becoming worthy to lift Mjolnir is no easy task, as very few in the MCU have been able to do it. Besides Thor, the only characterswho have lifted Mjolnirso far are Odin, Hela, Captain America, and the original Vision-- plusa surprisingly sturdy coat hook inThor: The Dark World. Out of the entire MCU, those are the only ones to have done it previously, which is a testament to how powerful some of these following Phase 4 characters are that they now joinsuch an exclusive club.

Thor

The least surprising character who can lift Mjolnir is Chris Hemsworth's Thor. He is one of the few original Avengers who is still around in Phase 4, and although Thor wields his Stormbreaker axnow, Mjolnir's return in Thor: Love and Thunder means the God of Thunder will be able to lift his enchanted hammer once more. Whether he actually does, with the MCU's new version of Thor coming in remains to be seen, however.

Jane Foster

Although Natalie Portman's Jane Foster has been a mere mortal so far in the MCU, the characterwill be turning into the Mighty Thor in the upcoming movieThor: Love and Thunder. The movie's marketing has already confirmed that Jane will be able to lift Mjolnir, as she does in the comics, once she makes this transformation. While she can't wield the hammer yet, this soon-to-be Goddess of Thunder will become worthy of liftingthe reformed Mjolnir early in Thor: Love and Thunder.

White Vision

Since his debut inWandavision,White Vision's rules haven't really been explained. He is made out of the same body as the original Vision and declared himself the true Vision after acquiring the original's memories. So, since the originalVision was worthy and lifted MjolnirinAvengers: Age of Ultron, and since White Vision is technically the same mind and body as the original, it can be deduced that White Vision will still be worthy of lifting Mjolnir in Phase 4.

Throg

While giants of the MCU like Iron Man and Thanos aren't worthy of lifting Mjolnir, Throg the Frog of Thunder is. Throg is in fact part of the MCU already, as he made a brief cameo in an episode ofLoki.Throg exists somewhere out there in the multiverse, and wherever he is, he is likely pummeling flies with Mjolnir. In the comics, Throg's version of Mjolnir is formed from a slither of the original hammer.

Zeus

Zeus makes his MCUdebutinThor: Love and Thunder - played by Russell Crowe -and if the rules are the same as in the comics, he will technically be able to lift Mjolnir. Unlike the others, Zeus is not worthy to lift Mjolnir, but through a loophole, he can anyway. If Mjolnir is to enter hisdomain,Zeus's MCU powersshould override Odin's enchantment, meaning he canhold Mjolnir. He may not be worthy, but technically Zeus is the fifth character who can lift Mjolnir in theMCU's Phase 4.
