Serious update issue: I just finished another round of the Casey and Skatie event and my pool toys on the main board now cap at level 6 dolphin!

The Developers sent an 'email' within the game that highlights some of the changes after this last update. One is 'Story Events like 'Ignatious Boulton' have also been revamped to make them much more fun to play! In other words, they shortened the length of time and number of merges to get to the 'prize'. Which sucks for those of us who had to wade through a seemingly infinite number of events to achieve the same thing! But, lucky for those who are playing it now, it won't take as long as it did previously! Sell all your excess pool toys - another win-win!
@Lorettarex I think you misunderstood me. This is not in the event, it is on the main screen trying to use the reward items. If the pool toys cap at level 6 then fixing the Casey Skates sign will take frikkin’ forever!
No I didn't misunderstand - when you finish the event, all of the pool toys are stored in your 'inventory' box at the bottom of the main screen. The developers revised the required number of pool toys (down) to your benefit! If you've already been completing the events (as I have on my phone app - I've already passed this event/stage on my Ipad app) you will fast forwarded to this new level and won't need as many pool toys as you would have before the update. Like I said, it sucks for all of us who had to play the event 20 times to get to this same point!
I stand corrected. It initially appeared that the benefit was confined to within the event, but not on the main board. The new inflatable dolphin drops a lot more than it used to; I think 16? I will count again.

Somewhat related - about event items on the main board and main inventory. I completed the events but kept some items in my main inventory and on my board, which I used ongoing to generate coins. When my favorite perfume bottle disappeared, I emailed Support. Support said:
Hello,
Thank you for contacting us today!
With the new update, the items obtained from the events will disappear if the related tasks were completed, as you won't need them anymore in the game!
