February 9, 2023
written by: Sarah Lyon
The start of a new year always brings about slightly new trends within the vintage world, and I’m excited to share some of the looks that I think will be having a major moment in 2023. Read on for my vintage trend predictions—and let me know what types of items you think people will be gravitating toward in the coming months!
- A classic meets modern approach
Classic pieces aren’t going anywhere (think wooden chests, commodes, and the like) but we’re going to see them continuing to be paired with more contemporary pieces (abstract artwork, sculptural lamps, and more) in traditional brass frames. Just because furniture items are traditional in nature doesn’t mean that you can’t accessorize them with more mod accents, after all. Have fun mixing styles to create a home that’s uniquely yours and reflects your personality.
2. A ton of original art
You heard it from me: The days of vintage prints are fading! People are craving original works for their home, and the most affordable way to source such pieces is often by going the vintage route. It’s time to part ways with those vintage “replicas” and go out in search of the real thing. Vintage landscapes, portraits, and sketches will reign supreme.
3. Lots more grandmillennial
Love grandmillennial style? You’re in luck, as the aesthetic doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon! Last year, we saw the arrival of coastal grandmother style, which will remain en vogue, too. So bring on ginger jars, blue and white, traditional style, and florals. Don’t shy away from chintz in 2023!
4. A collected look
One thing I love about vintage shopping is the ability to put together a collected looking space. This year, we’ll continue to see more pattern play, wrought iron, statues, and marble and onyx, all of which contribute to that quintessential well-curated look that simply cannot be replicated with all brand new pieces.
5. English cottage style
English cottage style had a major resurgence last year, and we’ll be seeing more of it in 2023. Say yes to those deVOL kitchens and open pantry styles and then plan a get together for your nearest and dearest.
5. Elegant candles
Make your home feel like a glamorous 20th century hotel by incorporating tapered candles and candelabras (or candelabra-style chandeliers) into your space. These elegant, classic touches aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.
Other trends we’ll continue to see in 2023? For one, copper will continue to be big! Additionally, landscape art (as noted earlier), transferware, marble, plaster, and brass were popular in 2022 and will continue to be common pieces that sell. So go on, mix those metals, pick up some new to you pieces of art, and ring in 2023 by continuing to shop vintage!
