‘When Calls the Heart’ Season 10: Everything to Know (2024)

The cast of When Calls the Heart is returning for season 10 — and fans can’t wait to see what happens next.“When Calls the Heart continues to push the limits as to what we can achieve with this show,” Hallmark Media executive vice president of programming Lisa Hamilton Daly said in a statement in June 2022. “There are many more stories still to be told about the lives of the beloved characters in this series and we cannot wait for everyone at home to tune in to see what unfolds.”The renewal news came one month after season 9’s finale aired on Hallmark Channel and seven years after When Calls the Heart first premiered. The series, which is a family western drama inspired by Janette Oke’s book of the same name, is the network’s longest-running drama in history.It stars Erin Krakow as Elizabeth Thornton, who moves to the small town of Hope Valley to serve as the coal mining city’s school teacher. After adapting to the Canadian frontier, she marries Royal North-West Mounted Police Constable Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing). While they start off as friends — and she entertains a romance with Nathan Grant (Kevin McGarry) — Elizabeth and Lucas eventually begin dating and fall in love.By the end of season 9, Elizabeth seems to be happy once again after Lucas asks for her hand in marriage. The businessman popped the question during the season finale, which aired in May 2022, and enlisted Elizabeth’s son, Jack, to help.“Including Little Jack in the proposal is a signal that her top priority now is as a mother,” the show’s co-executive producer and writer Elizabeth Stewart told Entertainment Tonight of the moment. “We made a conscious effort in season 9 to bring Lucas and Little Jack together.”While Stewart insisted that Lucas and Jack are “buddies” now, she teased that when they become stepfather and stepson “that relationship will obviously evolve.” The producer also revealed in May 2022 that the couple’s road to the altar might not be easy.“All I can say is that the course of true love never did run smooth!” she added.Scroll down to learn more about season 10 of When Calls the Heart:

Season 9 gave fans a happily ever after for Lucas (McNally), who proposed to Elizabeth (Krakow) after pursuing her for years. Lee (Kavan Smith) and Rosemary (Pascale Hutton), for their part, find themselves preparing to become parents. While Lee was seen running into the burning saloon in the finale, he made it out safely.

The episode also saw the return of Mei (Amanda Wong), who was in Chicago trying to clear her name, and Henry (Martin Cummins) to Hope Valley. Henry, however, came back to town after intentionally making the mine collapse one week prior.

Hallmark picked up the beloved series for season 10 in June 2022. The network revealed at the time that Lindsay Sturman will take over as the new showrunner. “Celebrating the great S10 news from Italy! We’re thrilled!!!” Krakow wrote via Instagram at the time, sharing a photo with costars McGarry, Kayla Wallace and Ben Rosenbaum in Venice.

The show’s lead Krakow as well as her two longtime suitors McNally and McGarry are all set to return. Original cast members Jack Wagner, Cummins, Loretta Walsh, Johannah Newmarch, Rosenbaum, Hrothgar Mathews and both Hutton and her onscreen spouse, Smith, will all be back — many of whom have already shared photos from set. (Lori Loughlin, who played Abigail Stanton for six seasons, was written off the show after she was indicted in the college admissions scandal in 2019.)

According to social media, Viv Leaco*ck, Andrea Brooks, Javien Natt, Wong, Wallace and Natasha Burnett have shot scenes for season 10.

Krakow revealed via Instagram in July 2022 that filming was underway. One month later, she shared a behind-the-scenes video from set, captioning it, “Season 10. So grateful for this show and this place. Hoping for 100 more eps. #Hearties.”

Hallmark Media’s executive vice president of programming announced at the Television Critics Tour in August 2022 that the show won’t return until mid-2023. In February 2023, the company confirmed that new episodes will begin on Sunday, July 30.

Hearties learned in February 2023 that they will eventually get a 12-epsiode 11th season.
