Can you laser engrave on acrylic paint?
I found acrylic paint (water based) works the best, although a bit pain in the butt to apply. I use q-tips to fill pain in the the engravings, let it dry for few minutes, then wipe with very slightly damp cloth. Trick is in timing for paint to dry and amount of moisture on the cloth. It's a delicate balance.

Does acrylic block laser?
Acrylic also usually has lower VLT ratings than glass, though it still offers ample protection from lasers.
In 3mm acrylic you can expect around 0.25mm (0.01″) deep, and in some of the woods the laser will cut up to 0.5mm (0.02″) deep. To go further into the material than this will increase the risk of undesirable damage such as warping (in acrylic) and excessive burning (in timber).
Laser Cutting Speeds
Cutting acrylic is usually best achieved with relatively slow speed and high power. This cutting process allows the laser beam to melt the edges of the acrylic and essentially produce a flame-polished edge.
