Do I need a mask if I use resin outside?
It is recommended that adequate ventilation should be available when using any liquid resin or plastic. Wearing a mask that will protect you from breathing vapors or fumes coming from them is a good idea, and is usually recommended by the makers of the products. The most common UV resin is probably UV epoxy resin.
When sanding, grinding, or drilling resin, wear a particle mask or a NIOSH respirator approved for dust. It is important not to inhale the resin dust, which could cause an allergic reaction.
Even though you can work outside, temperature does play a huge role in how your creations turn out. Warm and dry conditions are best when working with epoxy resin. You need to ensure the temperature is right and also that you ideally have no more than 50% humidity.
Some people get sensitized over a matter of days, for others, it can take years. The best approach is to avoid all exposure because there is no way to predict how much exposure you can take before becoming allergic. Allergic reactions to epoxy result in skin irritation or respiratory problems.
Respirator Mask
Using the proper type of mask is very important! We ALWAYS recommend using a respirator mask. Regular dust masks/N95 masks will not filter out the harsh chemical vapors created when resin and hardeners are mixed.
Once cured, ArtResin is fully waterproof, but be aware that putting clear resin outside in an environment full of UV rays may cause it to yellow prematurely.
The chemicals in epoxy resin systems can affect your health when they come in contact with your skin, or if they evaporate or form a mist or dust in the air you breathe. The main effects of overexposure are irritation of the eyes, nose, throat, and skin, skin allergies, and asthma.
It is also an excellent choice for various outdoor accessories, such as an attractive outdoor bar. Resin furniture is a perfect material for just about any piece of outdoor furniture with its versatility that can fit into just about every décor or motif.
A garage may suffice with proper ventilation. While these resins may require indoor controlled cures, proper PPE and ventilation practices should always be used. These types of resin may take days if not weeks to fully cure, in which an air space should always be kept well ventilated.
When you inhale these dust particles, they become trapped in the mucous lining of your respiratory system. The reactive material can cause severe respiratory irritation and/or respiratory allergies.
Should I wear a mask when pouring epoxy resin?
Use a respirator mask
The resin supplied in a Mouldd kit does not require a respirator as it is non-toxic. However, as you are working with chemicals, it is always best to be safe rather than sorry to protect you from the fumes (even the ones your cannot smell) and wear a mask.

Personal Protective Equipment (or PPE)
When it comes to keeping yourself protected around epoxy resin, there are a few pieces of equipment that are absolute must-haves. These include safety glasses, gloves, clothing that covers your skin, and a respirator.
Although Craft Resin is safe for home use and non toxic, no specific testing has been carried out on the effects of using epoxy resin whilst pregnant. We would always recommend that you speak to a medical professional so that they may advise you if this would be safe for yourself and your baby.
So look or ask for their safety data sheets (SDS). UV resins can be 3 x as irritating to skin and eyes as the epoxy resin. As you do so many rapid cures with UV resins, in a short period of time, there is more off gassing of volatiles so good ventilation is very important. You should not be inhaling any of this.
Epoxy and resin can be poisonous if they are swallowed or their fumes are breathed in.
Resin art is prone to fading. Consider keeping colorful items in an area that receives shade most of the day, or treat them to two coats of polyurethane. Choose a brand with UV protection, which will help keep colors bright. Scrub resin art with soap and water before applying the polyurethane.
The smell will stop being strong after about 8 to 10 hours. Resin can sometimes take 3 days to cure, but that is generally a hard cure. Once it is at the soft cure or demolding stage, the fumes won't be a problem at all.
Dangerous fumes
Short-term exposure to resin fumes can result in dizziness, headaches, and throat irritation. The long-term risks are unknown due to lack of research, but may include increased risk of cancer.
Cancer. Tests on laboratory animals showed that older epoxy resins caused skin cancer. It is, most likely, due to epichlorohydrin, which probably causes cancer in humans as well. However, newer epoxy resins contain less epichlorohydrin, so they don't cause cancer in animals.
Can you cover a patio with resin?
Laying resin on existing surfaces
Resin bound can be laid on some existing surfaces effectively. This means you can often cover up your old, tired patio or driveway with a beautiful resin replacement without needing to dig it up. This isn't just convenient but cost-efficient too.
Do not expose cured resin to high temperatures or direct sunlight: Cured resin art can withstand a certain amount of heat, say, a warm coffee cup on a coaster, for example, but very high temperatures can cause fully cured resin art to temporarily soften.
Unlike glass and ceramic, resin doesn't crack from drastic temperature changes. If your resin is not fully cured, cold temperatures will keep it from curing properly. If your project is fully cured, the hardened resin will withstand boiling water or a trip to the freezer with no cracking or harm.
Do not use Epoxies when temperatures of the air or the substrate will drop below 50 degrees F. Without first consulting with Epoxy.com Tech service for cold installation. Do not forget to allow extra time for epoxy to cure when working at lower temperatures.
It tends to discolor (amber) rapidly upon exposure to UV and even with indoor applications, epoxy still ambers over time; the degree at which it will discolor depends on the specific formulations and ingredients used. It can range from severe discolouration (browning) to slight ambering, all dependent on the product.
Epoxy coating is a simple and cost-effective way to upgrade your driveway, making it more attractive, durable, and safe. Some of the benefits of epoxy driveways over traditional concrete surfaces are that they are easy to maintain, come in limitless finishes, and are incredibly durable.
If the resin is inhaled or absorbed through the skin, the solvent can affect your brain in ways similar to alcohol causing dizziness, nausea, slurred speech, headache, confusion, and loss of consciousness. Bisphenol A is a chemical used in the production of epoxy resins and is thought to be an endocrine disruptor.
Epoxy Resin is Combustible and is an Explosion Hazard:
During fabricating operations, dust may be generated by such activities as grinding, polishing, sawing, cutting, and sanding and at least some of them will be fine enough to be potentially explosive.
One of the most important things to do when preparing to work with epoxy, is to ensure you have the correct equipment and PPE (personal protective equipment) to hand, this will minimise the potential for you becoming sensitised to the product and experiencing an adverse reaction.
An N95 or KN95 mask/respirator: Resin dust is no joke. Sanding can create a lot of it, and it's unsafe to breathe. To avoid getting it into the air while working, we use wet sanding. However, we also recommend wearing an N95 or KN95 mask or respirator while working with resin.
Is resin outdoor proof?
Due to the material and manufacturing process these products hold up to rain, snow, sun and more. They are rust, crack and stain resistant. The items are meant to be in the great outdoors and can e used year round.
Epoxy is safe to use indoors, in most home areas or garage type application. If using in larger quantities, use of additional ventilation tools may be needed. Most often a fan will suffice for any given epoxy. If repeatedly exposed to concentrated amounts, epoxies can cause itching and swelling.

Resin can give off toxic vapors and should not be inhaled directly because they contain chemicals like acrolein and acetone – both known carcinogens. It's best if employees don't work with resin printers at all unless there are safety measures in place to protect them from exposure.
