How do you make paper mache with Mod Podge?

Well, the nice thing about using Mod Podge to make paper mache is that you can use it directly from the bottle. There's no mixing. The Podge can also be used to seal the paint on the newspaper (if you choose to paint).

Mix 1 part all-purpose flour with 1 part water. This means that you need to mix 1 cup of water for every cup of flour. Mix well.
Mod Podge can act as both a glue and a sealer. You can use it to glue paper or fabric, to a box, or frame. You can even use it to add glitter to an item. The possibilities are endless.
The best glue for paper mache is white glue, the variety you usually use in school and the office. It's affordable, easily available, and flexible, so even beginners won't have difficulty accomplishing their small and large projects.
Once your paste is blended, it should have the consistency of thick creamy soup. If it is too thin or too thick, add more flour and water and mix again. That's it! You made paper mache paste.
Mod Podge dries to the touch right away (like most acrylic products); in about 15 – 20 minutes. Depending on the environment, it can be longer. Humidity can make it take longer. You can speed up the drying with a hair dryer.
You'll need to test the plastic first with a small square of paper or fabric. Mod Podge the paper/fabric down and let it dry for 15 minutes. If it peels off really easily, it's not going to work.

How many layers do you need for strong paper mache?
Once the first layer is dry, apply a second layer of newspaper strips and let it dry completely. Repeat this process until you get the desired look, but you should have at least three layers of newspaper strips.
Paper mache paste is easy to make, and it doesn't really need a recipe. The most important tip is to use hot water (from the tap, not boiling) to make a nice smooth paste.
Those few layers should be ready to paint in just a few days. If you're using my paper mache clay recipe instead of traditional paper strips and paste, you can apply it in a very thin layer that will dry in a day or two. The mixture dries very hard, so there's no need to add more than 1/8″ layer.
