What is the new Rank? Ascendant will sit comfortably between Diamond and Immortal. It is represented by a green diamond and will also have three levels just as every other rank does. Riot explained in patch notes 5.0 that "We believe our lower ranks have a few too many of you, especially Bronze and Silver.".
This should jumpstart the migration process for VALORANT ranks and quickly distribute low-ranked players to their new respective ranks. Ascendant will slot in nicely between the Diamond and Immortal ranks.

Added an additional rank above Diamond, below Immortal, called “Ascendant.” We believe our lower ranks have a few too many of you, especially Bronze and Silver.
If Gold is lowest, then Platinum is highest – again, any tier. If the lowest rank in the team is Platinum, Ascendant, Immortal, or Radiant, then the highest player can be no more than one level higher – so if the lowest is Platinum 2, then highest can only be Diamond 2.
Like the lower ranks, Ascendant will have three tiers: Ascendant One, Ascendant Two, and Ascendant Three. When a player climbs out of Ascendant Three, they will then move to Immortal and be able to climb to Radiant from there.
In order to better distribute players across ranks, the developer has added an additional rank dubbed Ascendant between Diamond and Immortal.
Moreover, players who are Ascendant will have new grouping restrictions for 5-stacks in rank. It means players are required to be within three ranks of Ascendant to queue together. MMR will also be moving around as the game has pushed players to their respective ranks now that Ascendant has been added in the mix.
As mentioned earlier, full parties of 5 are allowed with no ranked restrictions. That means you can play with 4 of your friends no matter what your skill levels are. You could have a team of 3 Irons and 2 Ascendants as long as you queue up and play together as a party of 5.
So because we are pushing the player base upwards to fill Ascendant, the reset will not hit you as hard. This fits in with our Platinum+ rule set for grouping. Remember, Diamond 3 and above could previously only solo, duo, and 5-stack. This restriction now begins at Immortal 1.

Why did Riot Add Ascendant rank?
What is this? Riot explained that this could lead to an eventual overpopulation of the higher ranks like Platinum and Diamond. Rather than letting those ranks be filled with players, the developers are set to implement Ascendant prior to Immortal, the second-highest rank in the game.

Silver and Gold Players can play together. Gold and Platinum players can play together. With Platinum or above, it is the same 1 tier difference.
