City Of South Padre Island Announces Water Tests Are Normal
We are happy to say that the waters along the SPI coast are tested and are completely normal.
Offshore winds cause colder deep water to replace surface water that has been warmed by the sun. Air temperature, wind-chill and sunshine should also be considered before deciding on the kind of wetsuit needed to stay warm when surfing at South Padre Island.

It is not possible to drive all the way down to South Padre Island due to this waterway. You must turn around at that point and drive 60 miles back north to reach the park paved road. Texas beaches are public highways and all traffic laws apply, including seat belt regulations.
Driving is allowed on the sand dunes north of the city limits. Here, there are 30 miles of drivable beach, up to the Port Mansfield jetties.
