How long does it take to grow broom corn?
Time to reach maturity: 90-110 days
Be sure to sow seeds after all danger of frost has passed. Broom corn is usually planted between the dates of May 1 and June 15.
Sow seeds ⅛–½ inches deep, 2 inches apart in rows 18–36 inches apart. For a continuous harvest, plant every 2 weeks until mid- June. Once plants are 4 inches tall, thin to 8–12 inches apart, depending on the intended use. A wider spacing between plants promotes thicker stalks.
Drought tolerant and seemingly thriving on neglect, broomcorn pops up all over the garden and is always a welcome sight for both the garden as well as for floral design. It's such an easy and versatile plant to grow that even a beginner gardener could grow it with no issue.
Broomcorn should be stored in a dry, cool place out of direct sunlight. Well stored broomcorn can last for years.
How to plant broom. Plant in spring or autumn, when the soil is warm and moist.
Assemble the following materials before you sit down to make a broom: Broomcorn (about 2-3 pounds per broom)
Seeds should be planted two to three per hole, about one to two inches deep. Plantings should be approximately 12 to 15 inches apart, and rows should be 30 to 36 inches apart. If more than one seed sprouts from a single planting, they should be thinned to the strongest sprout.

Make Your Broom Last
If the straw becomes soiled, swirl it in a bucket of hot, soapy water, then rinse well and air-dry. Don't leave brooms outdoors -- the sun will bleach the straw fibers and make them brittle, and extensive exposure to water will rot the bristles.

What kind of straw used for broom?

Since different types of corn can cross-pollinate and contaminate one another, they should be isolated from one another. All sweet corn types should be isolated from field corn, popcorn, and ornamental corn.
Soak the Seeds First
Sweet corn does not germinate well in cold soil and in low temperatures will die. Sweet corn seeds can appear shrunken and shriveled; before they can germinate, they must slowly plump up with water. To help them along, soak dry seeds in water at room temperature overnight before planting.

They like dry, sandy, and stony soil in a sunny position. Plant them in the summer straight in the ground or in trays and plant out in final position in autumn. 50% germination in first year. The rest will germinate in following years.
