Securing your hanger into a stud is the strongest and safest way to install any heavy wall art. Once you've located a general area for the mirror, use an AC stud finder to identify nearby studs and readjust the hanging location if possible. Tip: An AC stud finder will also detect pipes and wires hidden in your walls.

The Art of Education University says putty adheres quite well to numerous surfaces, including walls. Putty is mostly for hanging posters, but you can get creative and use it for small, framed objects, as well.
