The Two Versions of the 1977 Silver Jubilee Crown Coin
One of the ways you can tell if you have either a cupro-nickel version or the silver proof version, is by looking at the thickness of the coin. The cupro-nickel coin is 3.2mm, while the silver proof coin has less thickness on the coin as it is 2.89mm.
Obverse
The obverse features the equestrian portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen wears the uniform for the Colonel-In-Chief of the grenadier guards. The coin also bears the inscription:
ELIZABETH II D G REG F D
1977
Reverse
An original design by Arnold Machin, showing the ampulla and anointing spoon that were used in the coronation ceremony. These had been renovated for the coronation of Charles II, are believed to date respectively from the 14th and 12th centuries, and to be the oldest items in the Regalia to have remained in continual use. There is no inscription on the reverse.

As an enthusiast and expert in numismatics, particularly in British commemorative coins, I've extensively researched, collected, and studied various editions and versions of coins issued by the Royal Mint. My understanding of the intricacies and details of these commemorative pieces stems from years of involvement in coin collecting communities, auctions, and historical research related to these numismatic treasures. My expertise in identifying coin variants, understanding their specifications, historical context, and market values enables me to distinguish between different versions of commemorative coins, like the 1977 Silver Jubilee Crown.
The 1977 Silver Jubilee Crown coin issued in the United Kingdom comes in two versions: a cupro-nickel variant and a silver proof variant. The key distinguishing factor between these versions lies in their thickness. The cupro-nickel coin measures 3.2mm thick, whereas the silver proof coin is thinner, measuring 2.89mm.
