Are Guardians sterile? > Destiny 2 - Lore | Forums | Bungie.net (2024)

I've been pondering this question since the first Destiny came out. It's never really addressed in the lore; there are some mentions of Guardians having romantic relationships, but no evidence of Guardians actually producing children as far as I can tell. Correct me if I'm wrong on this, please. My guess is that Guardians cannot reproduce since this could potentially result in a very large amount of kids. Perhaps the resurrection process that the Ghosts use to bring Guardians back does not include certain key proteins, genes, or other science-y bits that are crucial for creating life. So Guardians could still have fun, per se, but they can't impregnate or get pregnant. One thing I've always found interesting is that the lore of the Warlords constantly mentions that the Warlords fight to secure territory, food, and supplies. Nothing is ever mentioned about Warlords abusing conquered inhabitants, sexually or otherwise. Is this because Guardians are programmed to not have a libido? Or perhaps Bungie didn't want to involve such dark themes in their game? I don't know. I'm just thinking out loud here--hopefully I'm not the only person who has thought about these questions. Otherwise I might feel like a weirdo.
