Hot Stuff

No Squirrels! I have no idea if birds prefer it or not because I've not done any side by side tests.

This stuff is really spicy. If you made a version that was human safe I'd probably be cooking with it daily.

Flaming squirrel

Cole's is A MIRACLE! I use it for making seed cakes with gelatin and seeds and a sunflower seed feeder. I mix with a large stainless steel spoon and pot.... Took me a few batches to learn how much to use. Squirrels try 1 or 2 times then stay away. After while I got lazy and didn't use Cole's. Took about 4 months for squirrels to catch on, then 1 time with Cole's again and they stayed away afterward. BEST anti - squirrel product ever.

Squirrels hate it!

We've been using Cole's Flaming Squirrel Seed Sauce since end of last summer. We have all squirrel-buster feeders except 1 that we use the sauce in. We discovered that putting a little extra sauce initially the 1st 4-5 fills has made the squirrels finally snub their noses to the sunflower seed. They still, every once in a while, attempt to get on the bird line and check each feeder and finally give up after realizing it's still 'hot as heck'!! The birds love it! Win- win!!

Less squirrels and birds

I have a squirrel proof feeder (it really works ) but I don't want to feed the really large local squirrel population. They would just eat what the birds dropped. It's very cold here and the squirrels don't like the stuff but a few still eat it because they are just so hungry. I'm about a month in and there is little activity at the feeder. Less than half the usual variety of birds and they seem to be visiting less frequently. I'll give it a little more time.

What the...

My rating is tbd, here’s why.
I’m less than 6 hours in to this regimen. So far, no squirrels and no birds.
I’ve read other responses from the company about giving the birds a chance to adjust to the color change so I’m being patient.
But here’s my experience. I mixed the sauce wearing gardening gloves and literally had my hands on fire for at least 5 hours. Is the necessity to wear impermeable gloves on the instructions or website? Maybe, but it is NOT prominent on the bottle. I HAVE NEVER FELT SUCH INTENSE PAIN IN MY LIFE.
In retrospect, I noticed the company video shows the sauce being mixed by a person stirring the sauce with a wooden spoon wearing latex gloves. I did not see this advice on the bottle NOR WAS IT MENTIONED IN THE VIDEO. I only noticed the subtleties while soaking my hands in ice milk watching the video after more than 4 hours of INTENSE pain. I can not over emphasize the pain intensity.
I don’t know if this works. Apparently I need to wait a few weeks to determine.
But it will burn the bee jeezus out of you for 4-5 hours if not properly protected. And IMHO, that fact needs a GREATER EMPHASIS! As in the first line on the label. As in a big fat warning on the bottle. As in being packaged with a measuring cup, gloves, and warning label because NO ONE needs to feel this intensity of pain (not even squirrels).

We are sorry to hear that you had a less than perfect experience with our product. Everyone here at Cole's knows first hand how uncomfortable handling something hot & spicy can be if you're not wearing gloves, so we feel your pain. Because chilies are a known irritant and can sting a little when coming in contact with bare skin (like cooking with jalapenos at home) there is a very prominent warning block highlighted in yellow and outlined in red on every bottle. We also have a link on our website that details precautions for handling all of our 'hot' products: https://coleswildbird.com/hot-products-safety-information/. Fortunately, any irritation is only temporary and causes no permanent damage. To speed up your relief you can put sour cream, yogurt, milk, or a cool compress on the affected skin. If you accidentally rub your eyes before you wash your hands, flush your eyes with a little no-tears baby shampoo mixed with water and add a cold compress if needed.

I've got a Yankeeflipper bird feeder and I think the squirrels actually enjoy getting flipped off the feeder. They manage to get two sunflower seeds per flip. Guess its like Six Flags for squirrels! Saw the great reviews and thought I'd give it a try. No luck they are still getting at the feeder. I mixed up a super potent batch of Coles with the sunflower seeds and put it on the ground by the feeder. About 4 squirrels came out to feast and they were not fazed at all. They enjoyed their snack! Don't know if I'm doing something wrong but it did not work. The birds do like it however

Thank you your feedback. We'd love for you to contact us directly (Sindy@Coleswildbird.com) so that we may assist you in improving your experience with Flaming Squirrel Seed Sauce. It is important to know that Chilies are not repellents. All of our "hot" products are based on taste preferences, so they must be eaten for birds to learn it is a delicious new food source and for other animals to discover it is not their favorite flavor. Within a short period of time most mammals simply decide they do not like the taste and move on to other more palatable food sources in your yard. As always though, if you are unhappy with the performance of any of our products we will be glad to facilitate a refund or exchange.

Definitely Works

I used to literally fight off "RAMBO" type squirrels on this here range on the regular. I even filmed these critters climbing strategically placed feeders hanging with one foot just to rob my feeders. It got to the point of chasing them with brooms and them chasing me back into the house. UNREAL IT WAS. UNTIL I FOUND THIS STUFF. When I say works like a charm... whoeeeee dogggy!!! Them there cow pokes hit the road and ain't been back since. They figured it out real quick... Ya see they smart but they ain't STUPID. THANK YA COLE's from the bottom of my saddle

No squirrels

No squirrels but lots of birds. Oddly the cottontail bunnies love it but marsh rabbits leave it alone. Unfortunately mice eat it.

I ruined 30 pounds of seed

It is true that it keeps squirrels away, I haven't see one in my feeders after started using this. Do you know what else I haven't see? Birds! I have 16 feeders and early in the morning when I fill them up, there are close to 100 birds on them. After I mixed this sauce on the seeds I see 1 or 2 birds on the feeders, its unreal, the feeders are untouched for 3 days when they are usually empty by noon.

We are sorry to hear your experience with Flaming Squirrel did not meet your expectations. What you describe though is not that uncommon when introducing a new food to your feathered friends. Here's a great Link to explain the phenomena in a little more detail:https://youtu.be/JydeQYI1mssIn short, when you add bright orange-red Flaming Squirrel Seed Sauce to a bag of seed, it changes the color of the seed - and that color change can temporarily confuse the birds. As a result, sometimes it can take a few days to a couple weeks for your backyard birds to recognize the new hot seed offerings as a viable food source. Most songbirds are very visual and any change to a feeder's look or contents can cause a temporary decrease in bird activity. Once they get past the change and try it out, you will see a significant increase in bird visits and maybe even a few species you've never seen before! As always, if you are not completely satisfied with any Cole's product, we will be happy to facilitate a refund for you with the store where you purchased our product. Hopefully though, you'll give it a second chance.
