Zlatoust gunsmiths are famous all over the world! In 2013, they decided to conquer the world with sophisticated techniques for making a large damask sword. The difficulty lies in the fact that Damascus is formed from a package of metals, and with large sizes of the package it is incredibly heavy.
Damascus steel sword 3 m long 17 cm and weighing 33 kg is recognized as the largest in the world and is included in the Russian Book of Records. When creating a unique sword, a new technology was tested. Existing forging methods do not allow making damask blades weighing more than 10 kg. Zlatoust gunsmiths invented their own recipe, learned how to weld high-carbon and stainless steels and make packages weighing 100 kg or more.
The weapon is an enlarged straight European sword. It is laconicly decorated with gold ornaments on the guard and the names of the people involved in its appearance – about 30 people. The handle is made of wood and covered with leather.
Nikolai Valuev, a Russian professional boxer, twice winner of the WBA heavyweight title, was invited to the presentation. His height is 2.13 meters, with a maximum weight of 149 kg and is the tallest and heaviest world champion in boxing history. It was he who was able to hold such a large sword in his hands.
