The festive season is less than 32 days away, but what is the exact date Brits should be putting up their Christmas decorations?
According to tradition, Christmas trees and decorations should go up on the first day of Advent, which is the fourth Sunday before Christmas. This year, that falls on Sunday 3rd December 2023.
New research conducted by John Lewis found that 28% of customers started browsing and purchasing their Christmas gifts as early as August, while 30% had already completed their festive purchasing by the end of October last year.
Elsewhere, the retailer also found that searches for tree decorations are up 33%, with Christmas wrapping paper (+466%), stockings (+250%), crackers (+400%), socks (+200%) and pyjamas (+130%) also continuing to soar.

The team at Christmas Tree World say: "In recent years, it has not been uncommon for families to get ahead and welcome the festive season early, with some setting up their trees as soon as Halloween is over! Another popular choice for when to deck the halls is the slightly earlier date of December 1st.
"Many households like to set up their tree and other festive decorations on the first day of the month to mark the start of the official countdown to the big day!"
