G'joob (2024)

Lethargic as they come, G'joobs are healthy eaters and even better sleepers. They spend most of their time drowsing under trees, using their six flippers to drag themselves around and waiting for the sun to come so they can try and get a tan. It's believed that the circular breathing prowess honed in their musical offerings is the secret to how they rest so easy.

Description

G'joob is a Mythical Monster that is first found on Plant Island and can be teleported to Mythical Island once fed to level 15. It and Yawstrich were added to the PlayStation®Vita version of the game on August 12th, 2014, and to the mobile version of the game on September 4th, 2019 during Version 2.3.2. G'joob is best obtained by breeding T-Rox and Pummel. By default, its incubation time is 18 hours long. Despite being an elusive Mythical Monster, G'joob does not have a high coin production.

Song

Instrument: Bassoon

G'joob plays a bassoon, producing short staccato tones. G'joob's Plant Island tune consists of the following notes:

On Mythical Island, its tune on that island is similar, playing a sound that matches a bassoon. G'joob's Mythical Island tune consists of the following notes:

VSTs

Virtual Studio Technology is an audio plugin software that has libraries of sound effects and synthesized instruments. Within these libraries are SoundFonts, which are the individual effects and instruments themselves. The Monster-Handlers utilize several VSTs to create the sounds of instrumental and sometimes vocal Monsters.

Breeding

On Plant Island, G'joob can be obtained by breeding Pummel and T-Rox. Note that it's not a 100% success rate, but the chances can be increased with Wishing Torches.

(Note that this combo can result in Rare Noggin or Rare T-Rox or Rare Toe Jammer if they are available.)

On Mythical Island, a duplicate G'joob can be obtained via unsuccessful breeding for a Bleatnik, which has only one combination:

The Rare variant of any breeding monster can be used instead of the Common variant.

Likes

1/5

Every Monster has different things that they like. For every unique object that they like that's placed near the Monster, the Monster's happiness will increase by 25%. Placing more than one of the same liked item near a Monster won't increase its happiness by an additional amount. If there's a Unity Tree on the island, items don't need to be near the Monster. Below are the things liked by G'joob:

Notes

  • G'joob's name is presumably taken from the chorus of the 1967 Beatles song, I Am the Walrus. The lyrics, in part, go: I am the egg-man, They are the egg-men, I am the walrus, Goo goo g'joob.
    • This gives a link between the monster's walrus-like appearance, and the name G'joob. Another link is the fact that G'joob has a Sergeant Flipper costume, which is a reference to the 1967 album Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles.
    • Further more, the description "...waiting for the sun to come so they can try and get a tan..." is another reference to the "I am the Walrus" song by The Beatles.
  • G'joob’s design was inspired by Wilford Brimley, and two of the random names it can be given, coincidentally, are "Wilford" and "Brimley."
    • Another one of G'joob's nicknames is "Beetus", a reference to the Diabeetus meme.
  • Big Blue Bubble signed a contract with Sony permitting G'joob to be only on the PlayStation®Vita version of the game.[1] However, as of the 2.3.2 anniversary update, it became available across all devices.
  • There was a glitch where despite its "Mythical" status, G'joob could still be used in breeding structures on Plant Island. Breeding with it would not produce eggs, and the combination would not show up when hitting the retry button. This bug was later fixed and usually does not appear.
  • G'joob bears a striking resemblance to G'day, sharing a similar color scheme, instrument family, and similar name. This is because they are close relatives, in the same family of the G'brood.
    • The two also share every liked decoration, the only difference being in their home Island's Monster.
    • G'joob is with G'day in the 3.2 loading screen, a reference to their relation.
  • G'joob, alongside Yawstrich, was made significantly louder in version 3.2.0.
  • According to Rare G'joob's bio, a group of G'joobs is called a mersey.
    • This may be a reference to Mersey Beat, a former music publication that published news about the Beatles in the early 1960s, as well as a tribute band called The Mersey Beatles.
  • G'joob and Blasoom both make the sound of a bassoon, but where Blasoom plays longer, sustained notes, G'joob plays shorter notes.
  • G'joob is the only Mythical Monster that does not go to an Island with the Air Element.
  • G'joobs are drawn to Halleberry fields because of the shade the gigantic bushes offer.[2]
  • When a G'joob was asked why it likes sleeping so much, it replied "Living is easy with eyes closed."[2]
