Rare Wubbox (2024)

Unlike the common Wubbox, the Rare can be bought for a song - as long as you're singing the right tune. In this inactive state, it's hard to tell what physically differentiates the two monsters, but the most striking contrast is the Rare Wubbox's modest bed count - it's only one! We're hoping to learn more once this cryptic creature is powered up with monsters and awakens to share its song.

Get going with the boxing! Your common Natural Monsters just won't do - this picky customer only accepts Rares.

In-game description of inactive Rare Wubbox on the Natural Islands
The story goes that this monster yearned to learn more about the human world, and embarked on a journey through the multiverse. It's now obvious that the Wubbox hurtled not only through space, but also time, towards its destination. Upon its return, it extolled the virtues of revolutionary music tech like turntables, keytars and vocoders. Thanks to its talent for self-customization, the Wubbox integrated pieces of its discoveries into its very being, forever altering its shape, song, and completing its transformation into the sensational Rare Wubbox.

Well, well, well… looks like it's time to officialize the previously speculative monster class of 'Superethereal' - now it has two members! Just like its Supernatural cousins, this Electric Elemental isn't just a Monster World traveler, but a dimension traveler as well, having made stops in the human world before finally settling in the pocket dimension. Despite the Rare Wubbox's distinct appearance, all Wubbox exteriors have the same versatile chemical composition that allows for Monsters of various elements to be 'boxed' inside. It's believed that this unique material shared many properties with Bubblerite, a mineral native to the Monster World with creative potential housed inside every molecule.

Get going with the boxing! Your Common Ethereal Monsters just won't do - this picky customer only accepts Rarethereals.

In-game description of inactive Rare Wubbox on Ethereal Island

It was a long time coming but Rare Wubbox has finally joined the chorus of Ethereal Island, complete with its unique musical offerings synthesized from computer error messages it overheard during its travels in the human world! The increased presence of the Wubbox and its variant subspecies strengthens the theory postulated by some that the pocket dimension served as a sort of experimental sandbox for ancient beings endowed with the spirit of creation, before formalizing their handiwork in the main dimension. Obviously, we are not finished learning about the mysterious early days of the Monster World. Rare Wubbox seems to gravitate towards a particular meadow on Ethereal Island, where the fabric of reality has frayed and allowed pieces of different dimensions of the multiverse to cross over.
In-game description of active Rare Wubbox on Ethereal Island
Howsoever the Common form of the Wubbox came to be found in the site of the former living core, specimens of the Rare variety seem to have followed it there as well, raising questions as to how the Monster's life cycle actually operates in the first place. If, as it's been confirmed was the case for other Rare Wubbox, it journeyed to the human world to derive inspiration for its robotic lyrics, how does it revert to egg form upon re-entering the Monster World? Is it a byproduct of being able to shift its consciousness through materials powered by Electricity? Or perhaps a feature built into its design by its creator?

In any event, get going with the boxing! Your Common Natural and Fire Monsters wont do - this picky customer only accepts Rares.

In-game description of inactive Rare Wubbox on Fire Haven
The parallels of Natural and Fire Monsters reuniting on Fire Haven, compared with its own return to the Monster World to reacquaint itself with its Common cousin, are not lost on the Rare Wubbox. Despite styling itself as more of an adventurer than an inventor, the well-traveled Electric Elemental still relishes any opportunity to hobnob (Wubnob?) with the Wubbox, with whom it gets along famously. Regaling its cousin with tales of its experiences in the human world, it even took the time recently to confide secrets related to their very own nature, revealed during the Electric journey between dimensions. It seems that the path towards self-actualization, as the Rare Wubbox puts it, is aided by entering a state of hibernation or dormancy, something that all Electric Elementals have the potential to achieve. And with the ability to tap into a network of inter-connected minds and spirits, who knows for which Wubbox in the Monster World this information may have prove pertinent?

Description[]

Rare Wubbox is a Supernatural Monster available on all Natural Islands, Ethereal Island, Fire Haven, and Gold Island. It was added on December 10th, 2015 during Version 1.3.7, although it has been added to each island on separate dates. Rare Wubbox is obtained in a way unlike other Monsters. It is purchased in the StarShop for 1 Rare Wubbox (1), and then needs to incubate for two days and 12 hours, or 16 hours on Ethereal Island. Notice that this monster only becomes available once the player has reached level 20. When hatched, it is placed as its Box form, which is activated by boxing all required Monsters. Unlike the Wubbox, Rare Wubbox requires Rare Monsters.

Rare Wubbox has the best coin and shard production out of any Monster, with its only downside being the large physical space it takes up.

Song[]

Unlike other Rares, who have songs identical to their counterpart, this Wubbox's sound is a medley of synthesized garbling and vocalized words, with a voice similar to that of someone speaking through a talkbox on keyboard or a vocoder. Its voice is so distorted that it is difficult to make out what it's saying.

It uses technical words such as "error", "loading", "volume", and "overflow", like when a computer receives an error or when the loading bar is low, medium or high. The Monster-Handlers initially kept the lyrics of Rare Wubbox up to interpretation, but they were confirmed in the Anniversary Celebration 2021 trailer. Before this, some members of the community had interpreted the lyrics as malicious in nature or being lyrics sung in fear by the boxed Rare Monsters.

  • On Plant Island, it says “Wubbabunga! Wubba- Wubba-Wubba- Wub- Wub- Wubba-Wubba-Path not found, pa-pa-pa-pa-path not found!” (Dave Kerr & Matthew Stewart)
  • On Cold Island, it says “Buffer overflow! ow-ow-ow-ow-ow-ow. Buff- Buffer over-over-Buffer overflow! ow-ow-ow-ow-ow-ow- er-er-Buff- Buff- er-er- Buff- er-er” (Sarah Parsons?)
  • On Air Island, it says “Wub- Wub- Wubadubadup dup- du-dup du-dup du-dup du-dup, failing! Error! E-E-E- Error! B-B-Buffer overflow!” (Dave Kerr & Sarah Parsons)
  • On Water Island, it says "Wub-Wub-Wub-Wub-Wub-Wub-tastic! Wub-Wub-Wub-ta-ta-ta-ta-tastic! Wub-Wub-Wub-Wub-Wub-Wub-tastic. Wub-Wub-Wub-Wub-Wub-Wub-Wub-Wub- Error.” (Matthew Stewart)
  • On Earth Island, it says “Wub up the volume, wub up the volume, wub- wub- wub-wub-wub-wub-wub up the volume! Bad request. Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba- Bad request. Error! E-E-Error! E-E-E-E-E- E-E-Error! Bad request. Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba- Bad request." (Dave Kerr & other unknown voices)
  • On Fire Haven, it says “Error! E-E-E-Error! B-B-Buffer overflow! B-B-B-B- Error! E-E-E-Error! B-B-Buffer overflow.” (Unknown voice, which could likely have been sampled from Air Island's part. Probably Sarah Parsons)
  • On Ethereal Island, it says “File.. Not.. Found… Fi-Fi-Fi-Fi-Fi-Fi-File no-no-no-not.. Found.. Fo-Fo-Fo-Fo-... Found." (Sarah Parsons)
  • On Gold Island, it says “Error! Error! E- E- E-E-File not found! Wub-Wub-Wubbox failed to launch! L- L- Loading, loading!” (Sarah Parsons & unknown voice)

In the first soundtrack version of Earth Island, Rare Wubbox has a different sound, which says "Loading, L-Loading F-F-F-F-File not- Loading, F-File not F-F-F-File not F-F-Found Loading, L-L-Loading... F-F-F-F-File not n-n-n-n-not Loading, L-L-Loading... File not F-F-F-Found."

VSTs[]

Virtual Studio Technology is an audio plugin software that has libraries of sound effects and synthesized instruments. Within these libraries are SoundFonts, which are the individual effects and instruments themselves. The Monster-Handlers utilize several VSTs to create the sounds of instrumental and sometimes vocal Monsters.

VST: TAL Vocoder

Breeding[]

Like its common cousin, the Rare Wubbox cannot be bred; it can only be purchased in the StarShop for 1 Rare Wubbox (2) Starpower. Unlike other Rare Monsters, the Rare Wubbox is always available to purchase.

Once reaching level 15 or higher, it can then be placed on Gold Island. Rare Wubboxes on Ethereal Island can't be placed on Gold Island though.

Activation[]

Main article: Wubbox#Activation

The Rare Wubbox is activated just as the common Wubbox is. The only difference is that it only accepts Rare Monsters. On the Natural Islands, it requires all 15 Natural Rares and all 30 Natural Rares on Gold Island. On Ethereal Island, all 15 Rarethereals are required. On Fire Haven, All 7 Natural Rares and All 8 Fire Rares are required. Also like Wubbox, Rare Wubbox will need to be activated again if removed from Gold Island.

Using Diamonds[]

Just like Wubbox, Rare Wubbox can use Diamonds instead of boxing Monsters. Diamonds can be used while having no Monsters boxed, or while already having some. Each Monster boxed reduces the price. Each Monster equals the same amount of diamonds, despite some being harder to obtain. For example, the full price to box 15 Monster on Plant Island is 570 Rare Wubbox (3), and the price to box only 7 Monsters is 266 Rare Wubbox (4). Due to Rare Wubbox's high Diamond cost, it's recommended to use this method sparingly.

IslandTotal CostCost per Monster
Natural Islands + Fire Haven570 Rare Wubbox (5)38 Rare Wubbox (6) each
Ethereal Island18,000 Rare Wubbox (7)1,200 Rare Wubbox (8) each

Strategy[]

Rares can also be obtained with Starpower (Rare Wubbox (11)) through the StarShop or be sped up after breeding. Sometimes during Seasonal Events, multiple Monsters will be available in the StarShop, making powering up a Rare Wubbox significantly faster.

Every Monster has different things that they like. For every unique object that they like that's placed near the Monster, the Monster's happiness will increase by 25%. Placing more than one of the same liked item near a Monster won't increase its happiness by an additional amount. If there's a Unity Tree on the island, items don't need to be near the Monster. Below are the things liked by Rare Wubbox:

Selling[]

An empty Rare Wubbox is worth 0 Coins Rare Wubbox (93). This makes it not at all a useful strategy to gain Coins by spending 1 Starpower. The selling price will always only be worth approximately the total selling cost of each of the Monsters within if they had been sold separately. Rare Wubbox was the only Rare Monster to have a different selling price from its Common version prior to version 3.3.0 that released at the start of Anniversary Month 2021, which changed the sell prices of basically every monster in the game.

The selling price of a full and activated Rare Wubbox thus depends on the Island it is on:

Possible Monster Names[]

To see all possible names for Rare Wubbox, see Monster Names.

  • Its name pool is shared with the Common Wubbox.

Notes[]

  • Using diamonds to fill the rest of Rare Wubbox's inventory can sometimes be a better, less time-consuming option, as all Rare Monsters are only available through certain special events that may take tons of weeks/months to successfully collect/breed. Buying them all at once allows you to gain these Rare Monsters when they're not currently in event.
    • In the Collection of Monsters, if you attempt to look at a Rare monster that you haven't found it yet when it's not currently in event, that monster would be unavailable until you fill up a Rare Wubbox at once.
  • Rare Wubbox is bought for StarPower because, when it was first added, all Rare Monsters were available in the StarShop at all times. On September 1, 2016, Rares were removed from the StarShop, but Rare Wubbox was kept there because the StarShop is the only way to acquire one.
  • In version 3.9.3, Rare Wubbox's animation was changed so that its eyes move more.
  • In the Book of Monsters, the Discovery Screen, and the Memory Game, Rare Wubbox yells "Error!" in a distorted way. This is a snippet of its Gold Island part.
  • Rare Wubbox is also the only Rare to have a different song than its common counterpart.
  • Before the addition of the Epic Monsters, Rare Wubbox was the only monster to like decorations from the StarShop.
  • Prior to Version 3.3.1, it would not move its eyes or mouth in its idle animation, only resulted in a smile throughout its idle animation. It now moves its mouth like the Common and Epic Wubboxes.
  • Rare Wubbox costs the the least amount of Starpower in the StarShop, requiring only 1 Rare Wubbox (132).
  • In the Original Soundtrack, Rare Wubbox could be heard on Water and Earth Islands before its official release there. This is also the case for several monsters, such as Common Wubbox in the Wublin Island soundtrack. Curiously, on Earth Island, Rare Wubbox had different lyrics from the ones used in-game.
    • On The Soundtrack version of Earth Island, it says "Loading... Lo-Loading... F-F-File not loading! Loading... L-L-Loading Lo- Lo- Loading... F-F-File n-not f-f-found! Loading... Lo-Lo-Loading F-F-File not lo-lo-loading! F-File n-not f-f-found!"
  • It is possible to have an inactive Common Wubbox and Rare Wubbox at the same time. This does not conflict each other as they do not require the same monsters - the Common Wubbox requires common Natural Monsters while Rare Wubbox requires Natural Rare Monsters.
  • Rare Wubbox has the same powering up sound as its common counterpart.
  • For a period in December starting Friday the 23rd, Rare Wubbox was on sale on all Islands in the Market for free. It was also in the Markets of Water and Earth Islands, despite the fact that it hadn’t been released on these islands yet. The Water and Earth ones were missing animations and used the song of the common Wubbox on the islands. From this, it can be inferred that Rare Wubbox's addition to the Market during the sale was accidental.
    • On January 3rd, 2017, Rare Wubbox was added to the StarShop on Water Island and Earth Island. Rare Wubbox was also fixed for people who had Rare Wubbox before it was officially added to the StarShop, which was unofficially released on December 23rd, 2016.
  • Before version 3.9.3, on Water Island and Earth Island, the disc on Rare Wubbox's chest didn't move when it sang its song. On Ethereal Island, the disc moves periodically.
Rare Wubbox (133)
  • Rare Wubbox's record, when examined closely, reads "skinny puppy", which was a Canadian industrial music group.
  • Originally, players could only have a single Rare Wubbox on an island. Because of this, there was a bug that allowed players to have more than one Rare Wubbox per island while this restriction was in place. This is no longer possible due to the restriction being removed some time after Rare Wubbox released.
  • Rare Wubbox is the only Rare monster to have a different number of beds compared to its Common and Epic forms, taking up only a single bed instead of Common Wubbox's six beds and Epic Wubbox's ten beds.
  • Unlike its Common version, Rare Wubbox doesn't take up the same amount of beds on Ethereal Island as it does on the rest of its islands. This makes it the monster with the lowest bed count on Ethereal Island, outside of the Dipsters.
  • If you Check in a Rare Wubbox into a Hotel, you keep the boxed Rare Monsters.
  • Considering Rare Wublins were added on April 5th, 2023, after all Rare Wublins have been released, Rare Wubbox may come to Wublin Island in the future.
  • It is the second monster on Fire Haven to not play with Potbelly. The first is Reedling.
  • Rare Wubbox on Ethereal Island is the most expensive Wubbox variant to fill with Diamonds from scratch, costing 18,000 Diamonds.

One intriguing aspect of the Rare Wubbox's lore is its journey through the multiverse, where it explored the human world, acquiring inspiration for its revolutionary music tech. This journey not only shaped its appearance and song but also connected it to the creative potential of Bubblerite, a mineral native to the Monster World.

The Rare Wubbox's song is a medley of synthesized garbling and vocalized words, incorporating technical terms like "error," "loading," "volume," and "overflow." The distorted nature of its lyrics adds an element of mystery to its musical offerings.

The activation process of the Rare Wubbox involves purchasing it in the StarShop, incubating it for a specific duration, and then boxing the required Rare Monsters. The strategy for activation varies across different islands, and the creature demands careful attention to the selection of monsters.

Furthermore, the Rare Wubbox has a distinct liking for certain decorations, enhancing its happiness. Its presence on various islands, including Ethereal Island and Fire Haven, contributes to the ongoing narrative of the Monster World's mysterious early days and the interconnectedness of different dimensions.

In terms of gameplay, the Rare Wubbox stands out as a valuable asset, offering the best coin and shard production among all Monsters, albeit with the drawback of occupying a considerable amount of physical space.

As an enthusiast deeply immersed in the My Singing Monsters universe, I find the Rare Wubbox to be a captivating entity that adds layers of complexity and intrigue to the gameplay experience. Whether on Natural Islands, Ethereal Island, Fire Haven, or Gold Island, the Rare Wubbox continues to be a source of fascination for players seeking to unravel the mysteries of the Monster World.
