Why did Oceanic 6 lie?
Why are they lying about the island? Locke has convinced Jack that telling the truth about the island would endanger the island and everyone on it. Jack convinces the rest of the Six to go along with the plan.
Only two attempts at escaping the island were successful, the Oceanic Six Escape and the Ajira Escape. Only one of the Oceanic Six was on the second rescue, Kate. The other members of the Oceanic Six (minus Aaron) died upon returning to the island, with the exception of Hurley, who remained behind.
"Lost: The Story of the Oceanic 6" is a clip show that aired on April 22, 2009. It recaps the story of the Oceanic Six, the events that transpired after their rescue and leading up to their return to the Island.
They were candidates identified by Jacob to succeed him after his eventual murder by Ben, a slaying instigated by the Man in Black. The Man in Black wanted them back so he could see about getting them to kill each other.

Oceanic Airlines Flight 815 was a scheduled flight from Sydney, Australia to Los Angeles, California, United States, on a Boeing 777-200ER. On September 22, 2004 at 4:16 P.M., the airliner, carrying 324 passengers, deviated from its original course and disappeared over the Pacific Ocean.
Due to their being involved in an Oceanic plane crash, they are known as the Oceanic Six. Included in this group are Dr. Jack Shephard, Kate Austen, Hugo 'Hurley' Reyes, Sun-Hwa Kwon, Sayid Jarrah, and Aaron Littleton. At the time of the crash, Kate was a fugitive in federal custody.
Sawyer, Kate and Claire made it off the island for good aboard the Ajira plane (accompanied by Miles, Lapidus and by the finally-aging Richard.) Hurley, Ben and Desmond stayed behind to protect the island.
How did Locke get off the island?
Locke leaves the Island at Christian's behest via the Orchid Station and emerges about 3 years in the future. Charles Widmore makes contact with Locke, provides him with the alias "Jeremy Bentham", and assigns Matthew Abaddon as his assistant to find the survivors that left the island, also known as the Oceanic Six.
Claire flew to Los Angeles at the coaxing of a psychic to give up her unborn child for adoption. She crashed on to the Island, where she began an inconsistent relationship with fellow survivor Charlie Pace. One of the Others kidnapped her, and she suffered amnesia after the escape.
Lost showrunners Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse have explained the ending to fans at the PaleyFest in Los Angeles to mark the 10th anniversary of the show's premiere. The pair said the island was never purgatory, as widely believed.
Jacob (Iacob in Latin) is a fictional character of the ABC television series Lost played by Mark Pellegrino. He was first mentioned as the true leader of the Others by Ben Linus and was described as a "great man" that was also "brilliant", "powerful" and "unforgiving".
There's an unspoken implication that, with Jack and Juliet both deceased, Kate and Sawyer might finally get together, but this is left entirely to the audience's imagination. As Kate and Sawyer fled the island for the final time, they managed to drag Claire along with them.
According to Jacob, the Island acts as a cork, holding back a malevolent force that would destroy the world if released. When the Man in Black made contact with the site of this suppression, the Heart of the Island, he transformed into a smoke monster that plagued the Island for thousands of years.
The plane crash, the smoke monster, the hatch, the island – it was all real. Of course, it almost all ended rather differently...
Jack and Christian go out into the church to meet the others. Everyone is able to see, recognize, and remember everyone else and their lives together. After an emotional reunion, Christian opens the front doors, revealing another bright light that slowly envelops everyone inside the church.
Later that day, the Man in Black, as the monster, rips the pilot (Greg Grunberg) from the co*ckpit of the plane and kills him, leaving his mangled body in a tree; the pilot's corpse is found by Jack, Kate Austen (Evangeline Lilly), and Charlie Pace (Dominic Monaghan).
The deadliest aviation disaster to have had a sole survivor was Northwest Airlines Flight 255, which crashed in Romulus, Michigan, on 16 August 1987, killing 154 of the 155 people on board the aircraft, as well as two people on the ground.

But the characters definitely survived the plane crash and really were on a very real island. At the very end of the series, though? Yep, they were all dead when they met up in heaven for the final "church" scene.
Locke. The saddest backstory, though, was Locke's. As a foster child, his father was not in his life until this man showed up, tricked him into giving up his kidney, and, later, pushed him out of a window.

Obviously Walt is referring to the hatch and whatever he saw frightened him to the point that he admitted to his dad that he had destroyed the first raft and also added that he now knows they must leave the island. It's a chilling moment and a good indicator of things to come.
Ben tells Danielle and Alex to leave Locke's camp and go to the island temple, but they are ambushed on the way. Michael's journey from escaping the island to working as Ben's spy on Widmore's ship is revealed, as well as his mission.

The subject file of Kate's mugshot is 00-0428-23-5607-01. This was another opportunity to include the show's infamous numbers as 4, 8, 23, and 42 are all included, with only 15 and 16 missing.
What happens if you don't push the button in Lost?
Desmond killed Kelvin outside the station on September 22, 2004 and returned too late to push the button in a timely fashion. This triggered a system failure and released a massive magnetic surge that caused Flight 815 to break-up in mid-air and crash on the Island.
Walt is one of the five original Main Characters still alive at the end of the series. Walt is also one of the few confirmed Oceanic Flight 815 survivors by the end of the series, along with Zach, Emma, Kate, Sawyer, Claire, Aaron, Hurley, Cindy, Rose, Bernard and Vincent.
The Man in Black was a long-time inhabitant of the Island. He was once a normal man with dark hair and steely eyes, but an encounter with the Heart of the Island, brought on by his brother and enemy, changed him into the Smoke Monster, a living cloud of black smoke.
Following the crash, Locke's paralysis was miraculously healed and he again had full use of his legs. Several other wheelchairs have also been depicted as being used by other characters.
The flash sideways saw characters living out alternate scenarios. Season 6 introduced a new narrative technique - the flash sideways. Like flashbacks and flash forwards, flash sideways intercut into episodes' main action a secondary storyline, which covered the centric characters at a different time.
She tells Jack about her affair with his father and their daughter, Claire, causing Jack to finally realise his relation to Claire. Claire herself learned of this sometime during the three years she spent alone on the Island, as, upon Jack's return, she greeted him as "my brother".
Charlie is later found hanging from a tree, and Jack is able to resuscitate him. Ethan examines Claire in a Dharma Initiative station called The Staff. He asks her questions about her pregnancy and injects her with Juliet's serum.
Before the Crash
When he suggests that Claire turn off her mother's life support, she is angry and leaves without learning his name. Years later, Claire becomes pregnant by her then-boyfriend, Thomas (Keir O'Donnell). He convinces her to keep the baby but leaves her a few months later.
Finally, Dante invents an entirely new region of Purgatory. As you will remember, Hell had a region which was invented by Dante, where the indifferent were punished (described in Inferno III).

Purgatory is the state of those who die in God's friendship, assured of their eternal salvation, but who still have need of purification to enter into the happiness of heaven.
Lost was a fast-paced, suspenseful, and surreal series about a group of people who survive when their commercial passenger jet, Oceanic Airlines Flight 815, crashes on a remote island in the tropical Pacific. As the survivors work together in an attempt to stay alive, they discover many mysteries about the island.
Jacob, or God, appears benevolently in the survivors' off-Island lives, sometimes intervening to save their lives while at other times offering encouragement or reassurance.

Kate was revealed to have been crossed off due to becoming a mother. At the same hand, Sun would've been crossed off by Jacob shortly afterward, due to Sun having Ji Yeon. Thus, confirming Jin was the candidate all along, as he was still alone on the island.
As hinted at in Orientation (2005), and confirmed in Season 3, the polar bears were part of experiments going on at DHARMA. The bears were being trained for increased intelligence and to be able to survive in a non-arctic habitat. Some viewers continue to question how the bears got from Hydra Island to the main Island.
From what we can tell, Sayid contracted "The Sickness" from the Lazarus Pit that brought him back to life.
"There's No Place Like Home" is an orchestral piece on the Season 4 soundtrack. It originally characterized the Oceanic 6's return to civilization. It later played during further returns, including the Six's return to the island, on-island reunions and awakenings and reunions after death.
The show's fictional storyline begins with the crash of an airline flight called Oceanic Flight 815. Airlines with this name have also been featured in other media, starting as early as the 1960s. Before Lost, the most prominent use of Oceanic Airlines was in the 1996 film Executive Decision.
In reality, Flight 815's mid-air break-up and crash was due to Desmond Hume failing to enter a code into the Swan station computer in time, causing a large burst of electromagnetic energy powerful enough to draw the plane inwards to the island.
What happened to Ajira Flight 316?
The plane crash-landed on Hydra Island in 2007. While some members of the Oceanic Six were teleported onto the Island in 1977 (Jack, Kate, Hurley, and Sayid), most of the passengers survived the crash, though some with minor or severe injuries.
But the themes at the heart of Lost are enlightenment and transformation. The castaways came to The Island stuck in a rut of some sort, their hope and ambition for transformation undermined by past baggage or a belief in their own damnation.
The final reveal that the flash-sideways interludes were actually a glimpse into the shared afterlife that the survivors created for each other well after their deaths — some in previous episodes, some long after the events of the finale — may have been too much to throw at audiences at the time.
Aaron was left behind by Claire in the jungle for unknown reasons when she followed his grandfather, and Aaron was passed through multiple survivors (Sawyer, Kate, Sun) until he made it to the freighter where he was then picked up by the helicopter.

Flight 180 has been confirmed to be loosely based on the real life disaster of TWA Flight 800 that occurred on July 17, 1996 near East Moriches, New York en route to Rome, with a stopover in Paris, with high school students and had also experienced an in-flight explosion due to a spark igniting the Center Wing Track.
Based on true events, “Flight 313: The Conspiracy” tells the story of a chilling conspiracy at the heart of the aviation industry. Two British journalists, played by Georgina Sutcliffe (“Age of Heroes”) and Rita Ramnani (“Hedda Gabler”), by chance discover aviation's biggest cover-up.
However, the plane remained buoyant, thanks in part to the fuel tanks, which were not full. Passengers and crew then exited the plane via the forward slide/rafts and walked onto the wings or entered inflatable rafts. Local ferries and emergency responders were on the scene within minutes.

It suffered no major damage, and all four crew members survived, with only the first officer sustaining minor injuries. They escaped from the cabin and ran to the crash site in an attempt to help the passengers. Only one of the aircraft's passengers, Anatoly Bordonosov, survived.
What happened to flight 009?
On 24 June 1982, the route was flown by the City of Edinburgh, a Boeing 747-200 registered as G-BDXH. The aircraft flew into a cloud of volcanic ash thrown up by the eruption of Mount Galunggung around 110 miles (180 km) south-east of Jakarta, Indonesia, resulting in the failure of all four engines.
Sole survivor
Sixteen-year-old John McCafferty was returning from Florida and his parents were waiting for him at the Owls Head Airport. Seated in the rear of the plane, McCafferty briefly saw trees through the fog just before the crash. After impact he was able to crawl from the wreckage with a broken arm and leg.
